Kai Wessel directs this German historical drama adapted from the novel by Robert Domes. The film follows 13-year-old Yenish boy Ernst Lossa (Ivo Pietzcker) who is sent to a Sargau mental institution in 1942. Ernst is put under the care of chief physician and staunch Nazi Dr Werner Veithausen (Sebastian Koch) and it´s not long before he realises that a number of the patients are to be killed as part of the Nazi´s enforced euthanasia programme.
Desperate to escape the facility along with friend and fellow patient Nandl (Jule Hermann), Ernst decides to stage a daring escape attempt
