Classic British crime thriller starring Jack Hawkins as Inspector George Gideon of Scotland Yard. Dedicated family man and all-round straight arrow, Gideon is used to being in the front line in the wave of crime and corruption sweeping the nation´s capital but even for him, today is a bad day. It starts with him having to confront a fellow office of taking graft who strenuously denies the claim.
When the officer dies later that day, however, Gideon´s attention is piqued. In one day, Gideon must handle a murder in Manchester and a burglary in London both committed by the same known villain before being shot during a separate fracas. Upon returning home at the end of the day, he gets short shrift from his family for forgetting to pick up the salmon - little thanks does the nation´s protector receive and none does he ask.
Directed by the great American western director John Ford and made in Ireland, this film went on to spin off a TV series ´Gideon´s Way´
