Following his court martial, aristocrat Jack Vincent (Oliver Tobias) turns to smuggling but he is caught and sentenced to be transported to the penal colony on Norfolk Island. When he realises the prison ship´s captain is his brother-in-law and avowed enemy Lieutenant Harry Anderson (Paul Gittins), he leads a successful mutiny and hopes to reach America until a storm wrecks the ship.

He survives the storm, but so does Anderson, who swears to hunt Vincent down and see him hanged.
