Collection of six early works from film-maker Douglas Sirk, made when he still lived in Germany before his move to America in 1937. ´April, April!´ (1935) sees pretentious businessman Julius Lampe (Erhard Siedel) fall victim to an April Fool´s Day prank. When he hears that Prince von Holsten-Böhlau (Albrecht Schoenhals) is coming to visit his pasta factory in person, he begins elaborate preparations and soon the entire city is aware of the upcoming visit.
Upon discovering that the visit is a prank, he asks a friend of his to play the part of the prince to avoid embarrassment. However, when the real prince actually arrives, Lampe does not recognise him and treats him terribly. In ´Das Mädchen vom Moorhof´ (1935) young farmer Karsten Dittmar (Kurt Fischer-Fehling) is engaged to marry Gertrud Gerhart (Ellen Frank).
When he meets maid Helga Christmann (Hansi Knoteck) he finds himself falling in love with her but he cannot bring himself to choose between the two women. ´Stützen der Gesellschaft´ (1935) is based on the play ´Pillars of Society´ by Henrik Ibsen. When Norwegian immigrant Johann Tonnessen (Schoenhals) returns to Norway from America to visit after two decades away, he discovers that Consul Karsten Bernick (Heinrich George) has told everyone in their hometown lies about Johann in order to cover up his own misdeeds and failings.
Even worse, he is willing to go to terrible lengths to keep his secrets hidden. The short films ´Zwei Windhunde´ (1934), ´Der Eingebildete Kranke´ (1935) and ´Dreimal Ehe´ (1935) are also included
