Deborah Kerr, David Niven and Jean Seberg star in this drama directed by Otto Preminger. Cécile (Seberg) is the free-spirited 17-year-old daughter of Raymond (Niven), a wealthy widower. While they enjoy a summer holiday together on the French Riviera, Cécile has an affair with Philippe (Geoffrey Horne) and Raymond spends time with his mistress Elsa (Mylène Demongeot).

When Anne (Kerr), a friend of Cécile´s late mother, comes to stay, she grows closer to Raymond but this threatens Cécile´s carefree existence. As she and Elsa plot to drive Anne away, tragedy ensues
