Gian Maria Volonté stars in this Italian crime thriller directed by Elio Petri. When two men are killed whilst on a hunting trip, Professor Paolo Laurana (Volonté) does not believe that the people subsequently accused of their murders are guilty. As he investigates, he uncovers evidence of a sinister conspiracy and soon, his own life is in danger.
