In 1980, the Galactica and its civilian fleet reach Earth but those aboard soon realise that Earth´s people cannot help them in their fight against the Cylons. Hoping to covertly advance Earth´s technology so that the planet can withstand a Cylon attack, they attempt to subtly influence scientists on Earth but face opposition from one of their own.
