Fernanda Montenegro stars in this Brazilian drama directed by Walter Salles. Cynical former teacher Dora (Montenegro) works at Rio de Janeiro´s Central Station writing letters for illiterate customers, often not even bothering to post the missives she has grudgingly transcribed. When one of her clients is killed, Dora takes in her nine-year-old son Josué (Vinícius de Oliveira).
Josué wants to find his estranged father and Dora reluctantly agrees to accompany him on his search. The two unlikely travelling companions slowly strike up a friendship but will they find what they are looking for?
