In early 19th century Styria: Baron Joachim von Hartog (Douglas Wilmer) almost completely destroyed the vampire family Karnstein, only the grave of Marcilla (Ingrid Pitt) he has overlooked. Years later, she appears at a ball of General von Spielsdorf (Peter Cushing), who takes her with her for some time. She makes friends with his niece Laura (Pippa Steele), who is soon plagued by violent nightmares and finally dies.
