Kinji Fukasaku directs this Japanese historical martial arts action which depicts the story of the 47 ronin. When Asano (Teruhiko Saigô) is unjustly sentenced to death and stripped of his land and property, his disciples want revenge on Kira (Nobuo Kaneko), the man responsible. However, Kira is protected by the shogun and so the group of 47 men led by Oishi (Kinnosuke Yorozuya) bide their time.

Over the course of the next year, Oishi must evade the spies and assassins sent by Kira, until the time comes to strike. The cast also includes Sonny Chiba, Toshirô Mifune, Tsunehiko Watase and Masaomi Kondo
